ESMOESMO stands for European Student Moon Orbiter and is intended to be an ESA-managed educational tool for helping european students in their transition from the University to a working environment. To this end the Project benefits from the participation of industry Sponsors and advice from space experts. Several young graduating aerospace engineers from the University La Sapienza of Rome - some of which later worked for Spacesys- participated to ESMO during the A and B phases, and were assigned key responsibilities at both system and subsystem level. More specifically the University La Sapienza participated with three young graduates working at overall system level (coordinating the Ground Segment, Propulsion and Power System, the Electrical Interfaces with the OBDH , and the overall spacecraft Configuration) ; a Ground Station team, a Thermal Control team; a Flight Dynamics team; and a dual-band, microwave radiometer Experiment. In carrying out the work required by their tasks the Students familiarized with many space-related procedures and standard documentation and had the opportunity of complementing their knowledge of the space environment and the technologies required to build aerospace items. Besides they had the opportunity of meeting young engineers from other european Universities. Coherently with ESA's aims, most of those Students graduated with Theses on the items they had worked for during their participation to the ESMO project. In most cases those Theses were of very good to excellent quality. SpaceSys gave its contribution via its General Manager as space expert. He also provided guidance and supervision to some of the La Sapienza teams and promoted the diffusion of ESA's educational activities, and of ESMO in particular, through workshops hosted by the University.
