Partners and Customers

Spacesys cooperates with several Small-Medium Enterprises (SME), large companies, Research Centers and keeps in contact with Governmental Bodies representatives. The cooperation may take the form of a limited duration partnership to jointly  perform important tasks for a  major Customer;  or of a  subcontract  to perform tasks in areas  where we have  a specific expertise. Occasionally we may play a Consultancy role.

A partial list of the Entities with which Spacesys cooperated, or is still cooperating,  is given below.

Rheinmetall Italia

  This medium-large Company (www.rheinmetall.it) was  an important  Customers of Spacesys. We accomplished several activities for them, among which :

- a review of part of the MIOSAT system-level documentation ;

- a definition study for a MIOSAT back-up, COTS-based, telescope;

- a feasibility study for adapting the MIOSAT platform to a meteorological MMW mission;

- a  feasibility study - in the frame of ASI's small mission RFP-  for the MAGIA spacecraft,  a  Moon orbiter aiming at a challenging scientific mission;

- AROSAT: a very high resolution optical observation satellite for strategic purposes. Spacesys performed a phase-A feasibility study including tradeoffs and subsystems specifications.

ELV / AVIO:

     ELV ( www.elv.it) and Spacesys currently exchange views and information to support each other to accomplish tasks requiring the other partner expertise.  Recently  the team elaborated an international proposal for an innovative Data Relay Satellite System intended to complement the E_DRS in view of the growing demand for near real-time bulk data transfer between space and ground;

In the frame of an AVIO-ELV  feasibility study concerning air-launched satellites for tactical purposes, Spacesys defined a microsatellite, for optical observation missions, carrying six fixed-pointed cameras for medium resolution wide swath imaging and one 30 cm telescope for 2 m ground resolution imaging over a swath of 15 to 20 km.

 ELITAL

      Elital   has several  general and special manufacturing technologies   (www.elital.com )  that Spacesys may  rely on to develop both ground and space hardware. In return,  Spacesys has supported ELITAL on system topics unfamiliar to them, such as the definition of test plan for special /new devices ( e.g. MEMS filters) intended to be later space-qualified .

Optoservice

     This Company  ( www.optoservice.it ) specializes in professional optical and laser devices designed and built to Customer requirements. They serve primarily both the scientific market  and the hi-tech medical one needing highly tailored optical devices and instrumentation.  Spacesys has a long-time cooperation with Optoservice in handling tasks requiring a professional and industrial experience in optical systems.

Laboratorio Tevere

This SME has a small but well equipped mechanical workshop.  Moreover this SME  ( www.laboratoriotevere.it) is a well established supplier of airborne imaging and communication Services to several Governmental Organizations. The cooperation between Spacesys and Laboratorio Tevere is quite recent and has been set in view of the complementarity of the two SMEs to better catch the market opportunities  associated to  innovative Space Services.

ST Skytech

We are presently exploring the feasibility of establishing stable working relationships with this Company which is active in the design and production of several types of digital Units for Space use.

 LTG:

 This small private Company specializes in the development and tests of prototypes or small batches of microwave and mixed analogue-digital circuits mainly for ground communication purposes and for test equipments.  They also perform screening tests on electronic parts to third party specifications. The Company also has interesting environmental test facilities, matching the environmental test requirements of small size Units.

Recently LTG and SAMAsistemi , a SME specialized in the design, development, production and installation of antennas of all kinds for both civil and terrestrial/maritime military applications, have merged  forming a new company and moved to a new facility.

RFmicrotech:

  This Company (www.rfmicrotech.com) , a spin-off from the University of Perugia, specializes in innovative antenna ( mainly arrays and lenses) and microwave devices (such as  RF filters)  and is now developing  a line of MEMS-based products. SpaceSys is supporting RFmicrotech in several projects, complementing their rather  limited space experience;.

INAF

  Our relationship with INAF - and more precisely with Researchers working in the Radioastronomy National Institute located  in Medicina - dates back to  2007 due to a common interest in microwave radiometry - for both scientific and educational purposes-  that was applied to the design of a microsatellite  ( Astrosat_Skyway)  for amateur, didactic and scientific purposes.

Università La Sapienza

      We have  a longstanding record of cooperations  with La Sapienza (www.uniroma1.it)  in the educational field, also witnessed by the co-tutoring of graduating engineers.   Besides, Spacesys supports the University in performing joint studies on specific topics , exemplified by:

- participating  on the Florad system feasibility study performed, in 2007,  in the frame of ASI's Small Mission Studies:

- defining and participating to a quite extensive (lasted for more than three years) joint research on electromechanical energy storage system for satellites;

In the past we led, and participated to,  a large research on stationary lighter-than-air platforms

SpaceSys had also a key role in organizing and supporting the Rome University team participating to ESA's ESMO satellite feasibility and initial design.

Unione Astronomi Italiani  (UAI)

   The cooperation between UAI (www.uai.it ) and Spacesys dates back to 2007 when the AstroSAT-SkyWave project was initiated. UAI represents the interests of more than 50000 amateurs grouped in about 200 local associations. UAI was very active in providing  Spacesys with  valuable imputs for the definition of the microsatellite Mission.

AMSAT-Italia

  The cooperation between the italian branch of AMSAT (www.amsat.it)  and Spacesys dates back to 2007 when the AstroSat-SkyWave project was initiated. AMSAT-Italia  contributed  to the  desirable requirements by the Radio Amateurs, including a multifrequency transceiver and a ionospheric sounder.

Università Tor Vergata

  Spacesys  contributed , by supplying didactic material, lectures and tutoring,  to the Master in Satellite Navigation. Besides  we are cooperating with selected Departments to jointly perform  Research-based contracts.

SAMA Sistemi s.r.l.

This is a specialty house  located in Rome  which designs, develops and produces a very large variety of antennas, on Customer requirements, for both civil and military uses.  Their quite impressive catalogue can be seen in their website (www.samasistemisrl.com) . Recently, SAMA SISTEMI and LTG decided to merge their capabilities and to move to a much larger facility.
